After seeing that Buick will let you take home pretty much any car for 24 hours, I thought that this would be a great way to learn how to drive a stick (with a friend to “borrow” the car first so no one died on the way home). So after calling the local Buick Dealer (only one within 25 miles) and put on the line with Steve (fake name) he was A. confused over the term manual B. having to explain have to be explained I did now want a sad excuse for paddle shifters but a true 6 Speed Manual C. told me Buick does not make a manual transmission in the Regal or Verano (two Buicks actually offered with Manuals) D. Finally told they did not have any on the lot but what time could we expect to see you today? I got pissed off and rather rudely ended the conversation but, not without being told they could finance me no matter what and they have best deals in the area. which brings to my point are there any other brands that will let me bring home a car for 24 hours?

Kia/Hyundai dealers can be pretty desperate for sales and will usually let you take home a car for a day.

IDK about brands but I know a VW dealer that wouldn’t let me leave without taking a Jetta for 24 hours when I said I didn’t like it.

Buick?

You are looking at the wrong brand to have manual transmissions on the lot.

1. Find a friend or family member who drives stick.

2. Ask this person to give you a stick shift lesson or two.

3. ???

4. Profit

You have the right idea - learn on OPCs (other people’s clutches). Do not learn on a car owned by someone you care about ... it will come back to haunt you.

Yep, if you were local I’d let you drive mine. I taught a bunch of friends on my old Honda - it was so easy, it was like cheating. If you were nearby (looks like you’re in Michigan?) I’d let you give it a shot... I’m sure you can find someone near you to do the same.

I mean, I trust you. It’s not like any oppo person has ever wrecked my car. Oh wait.

many dealers will let you search their inventory online, you should do that instead of calling and asking the person at the dealer to do it for you. That way you can just tell them you found Vin #XXXXXXX on their website and are interested in a test drive.
